Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Wonder what kind of accuracy? The I was shooting a Contender in 30-30, it would print around an inch at 100 yards with Hornady Lever loads.

Looks like it could be fun, but out of my price range.

Well, call me crazy I just love the BFRs. I have a 30/30 henry, a 45/70 Henry and a .500 S&W BHA Carbine Model 89. I did get a .500 BFR to match the carbine and in the process of getting a 45/70 BFR to match the Henry. A bud has a 30/30 BFR and may be willing to sell it as he got it on a whim and has only shot it a couple of times. I shot a 45/70 and what really surprised me was it has less recoil than the .500 BFR. In MD you can use straight walled cartridges anywhere a shot gun is used. Bottle neck cartridges can be used in select northern and some eastern shore counties. To hunt with a pistol the barrel has to be 6" or longer and the FPS for the round is 900. Also, no rounds less than 30 caliber.

A 30-30 in a handgun is a flinch gun for sure and definitely a 2 hand hold. My Contender is extremely accurate with neck sized cases and 748 and 4064 loads. I do miss Thompson Center. They were very customer oriented .

Mine too. My first handgun silhouette gun was a Contender in 30-30. While the ram target at 200 meters was a pretty big target that 30-30 would mow then down when I did my part. Of course we were shooting these big caliber handguns while laying on our backs with the pistol tucked into our knee bend with knees up. Most of the recoil was absorbed with the hinge action of our elbows. Fun times!

Yeah, when TC offered the 14" 30-30 barrel in the Contender, it put the Contender on the map for a lot of us shooters.

Speaking of TC, I have an internet shooting friend who lived just down the road from the old TC factory in the old days. He said he could walk into the factory and they'd get him a cup of coffee and make him feel right at home. He said the town was devastated when S&W bought out TC and closed down the factory. Closer to home, one of our local gun shop owners told me he could call up the old TC and have them ship small parts to work on customer's Contenders and TC wouldn't even charge him for parts. Once S&W took over TC, they wouldn't even ship spare parts, anymore. You had to ship them the gun if you wanted any parts replaced. Very different company.

They were amazing. I once went to the Rochester NH plant with a Hawken barrel that needed a new breech block as the previous owner had cross threaded the nipple. I was the 2nd owner. I explained that I was not the original owner. and they not only replaced the block. they re-blued the barrel and never charged me a cent. they were special.
