Testing Aquila's 38gr CPHP Ammo

Post by Vaquero » Thu Jan 25, 2024 3:41 pm

Well I found these for sale online a couple weeks ago and they arrived Monday.
It's been a wet week here, but early this morning it was a bit foggy but not raining. So I slipped over next door on the farm for a little test with a couple of scoped Marlins. Just to see if these nickel apiece 22's were worth the price.
Set up target at real close to 25 yds.

Shot the two semi-autos first, not bad, not bad at all.
Ok, I load the mag. for the 25N, insert it in the rifle and get into position and just as I'm squeezing I hear this very distinctive grunt out of nowhere. Yep I pulled, now there's a second and I slowly turn around to see this big ole pot belly pig standing like 5yds behind me. Kinda startled me and I him when I turned. He runs off back across our yard to wherever he belongs I guess. So I add another bulet in the and proceed.
Not to bad I'd say and they functioned well in both SA's.
I was going to try at a little more distance, but mother nature had other ideas. But I'm happy with the current results.
Not bad for a 5 cent 22 round.
Oh, I also ran 10 through the Ruger 22/45 plinking at the little flipper target from the deck, functioned fine.😉

We bought a bunch of the Super Extra back during one of the 22 ammo shortages and it worked fine. Not as accurate as Mini Mags, but not bad. Hope yopui get a chance to try it at 50.

Oh yeah, no problem with that, just didn't happen today.
One day this weekend for sure.

Looks like some great plinking ammo Randy! I checked my LGS for that brand and they were out but plenty of the others.

Ive used those also Randy they function fine in most of my guns. My tricked out 22/45 lite likes Mini mags. So I feed it mini mags save all the other stuff to either sell to the neighbor or shoot in the leverguns

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

I’ve had good luck with Aguila ammo. The main problem is it tends to be a little dirty. Someone made a range report and spelled it rainge. I was thinking that is what you call it when you shoot in the rain.

I've also heard of the dirty problem and was told that the gun power also smells a little different.

Granted that I only got to put a handful through each I didn't notice any off that.
I am going shoot a few more here shortly.
But given the accuracy at the above distance it should give the grandson a ton of cheap fun and I can save the more expensive stuff for my needs. ;)

Randy, I've had pretty good luck with Aquila .22lr ammo in my 39A and Marlin 25N. Its the SEHV stuff. If I can remember how to post a pic, I'll do that.
