More 1858 Remmie Carbine fun....

Post by fortyshooter » Wed Jan 24, 2024 9:50 am

Finally after weeks of rains and subfreezing temps I was able to get out yesterday to try a 250 gr. MB bullet load using same 5.5 gr. of Red Dot as the other 230 gr. Speer soft lead load....45 Colt. Surprise that both have same POI. and then adjusted the rear sight a step or two for elevation.
This thing is so light and easy to shoot well....I love it! Would make for a great little camp carbine in .45 Colt being so easy to handle. If you have a pair or so of loaded cylinders reloading is a snap!
Checked the speeds of the loads and the 230 gr. Speer was in the 850 FPS range and the 250 gr. MB cast bullet was 810 to 830 FPS which is the range you want with a black powder type gun using smokeless powder loads. Bore is very clean after shooting.

Fun plinking on a can from 35 yds. !

You forgot Browning, it's Jap made now also.
Remington almost ruined Marlin, and even though the later years they did finally did make a decent rifle most purest Marlin fans still won't own one.
Ruger "seems" to have come out of the gate hitting on all cylinders, time will tell.

I use Remmie cause it is shorter than typing out Remington. Most folks know what I mean. Yeah I live in a small city BUT enjoy the outdoors in my woods.
