More 45 Colt range time.....
Went to my range today to try the Henry 45 Carbine with those 200 gr. FTX rounds I loaded with 20gr. of 2400.
Also brought along my Rossi 45 Ranch Hand and my Smith 25-7 for some fun.
First up was the Henry from 40 yds hitting the gel block. Speeds were in the 1580 to 1620 FPS range at muzzle and expansion was good with full 16 inch penetration and into 2nd magazine. Accuracy wasn’t as good as I wanted but could have been me.
Next I tried the 9 inch barreled Ranch Hand with the 200 FTX loaded with 9.5 Unique and though a less powerful load than the 20gr. 2400 I guess around 1150 to 1200 from the expansion seen. Not bad!
Saved last for best....the S&W 25-7 shooting my modified 250 MB bullets cut back to 230 gr. with big flat nose.
From 12yds standing one hand shooting the Smith is a keeper! That far right hit was a DA pull but the other 5 SA pull.
For me that was great shooting!
Picture order came out backwards....bottom picture is first and so on. Posted from my ipad.

Nice shooting with that Smith. I was wondering about your flier’s position as my double action shots tend to go low left. Then I recalled you’re left handed so your shot to the right makes sense. All’s right in the world.

Yep that was the first shot with DA and one hand and didn't have the best grip control on that one. Now If I could get that S&W SA trigger on my Henry!!

Good shooting Forty. The 2400 load is smoken fast. Is that your own concoction?

Re: More 45 Colt range time.....
Yep that is my own load since there is no "official" load data for that bullet 200 gr. FTX in 45 Colt. That bullet for whatever reason was brought by Hornady for the then new S&W .460. In my Lyman 49th there is no mention of that bullet for SW 460 either.
Looks to perform well at speeds of 1200+ FPS. It doesn't expand fully at speeds below that but does give you a nice .540-.560 dia. slug with 9.5 gr. Unique load at around 1025 FPS.for standard .45 Colt load. I could use that in my Ruger New Vaquero, Uberti's and my S&W 25-7.
The load thru my Henry was the 20 gr. of 2400 load moving at 1600 FPS which that bullet on the gel block was.

Very nice shooting with the Smith! And some serious oomph with that Henry load. Forty, you're on a roll!

Nice shooting with the Smith Forty. Looks like you have a barn burner 45 colt load.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Re: More 45 Colt range time.....
While Clear Ballistics still had their sale going I called them today and ordered another 16 inch block plus the mold pan I will need to recondition the gel blocks. I will put the two blocks end to end for 32 inches which should be enough to stop hand gun and most hollow point bullets without other backups. This way I can adjust loads and monitor penetration distance.
Wonder what one of those Hornady 325 gr.FTX 45-70 bullets will do ?
Note...Clear Ballistics doesn't mess around. I placed my order at Noon today Monday and it will be here tomorrow morning by FedEx!!!
