Off to the range again today....windy at times again, but time to cowboy up for some long range shooting...
1885 High Wall; check
200 gr LRNFP; check
7.5 gn Universal; check
Old garbage can lid; check
Binoculars; check
Beef jerky; check
Tea; check
I wanted to push my limits today and shoot the long range boards at the club. Original plan was the 250 yd but the wind was pretty gusty at 85 km/hr or about 50 mph. So I went for the 200 yd, with a garbage can lid as the target. Now, for the life of me I cannot imagine why I thought I would hear some steel or tin go ping or klink or something like it but no. Just for the record, if someone is shooting at you with a high wall, don't take cover behind the garbage cans. Even 200 gr lead is like a knife through butter by the looks of it. I don't even think the lid moved. It just hung there and took it like a...well like a lid.
200 yds, shooting from 1 knee as usual, 1885 High Wall 45 Colt. Sweet rifle and worth the 2 yr wait. I shot 50 rounds, and looks like about 38-40 in the lid. Took some time to get my windage and elevation sorted out. This is about 2 hrs worth of shooting, and I walked out and back quite bit to check on things. Good cardio workout today.
Great fun! RR

Ya she saw it. Just shakes her head anymore. I told her it's customized now. Unique. One of a kind (at least until I do the other one).

Love it! Just how big is that lid from 200 yds. in comparison to your front sight bead? Wind direction...cross wind...head wind....tail wind?
Amazing hits on that AR-000 target !
That rifle really needs a steel buffalo....clang!

Re: December 17th, 1885
The lid is about the right size to just sit on the top of the front sight like it was balanced there. The wind was pulling my bullets to the right. I had to put the dot on top of the sight and then just slightly left. About 10 or so rounds went into the wood to the right of the lid until I got it right. Even then lost a couple to the right still. You can see where I nicked the edge on the right. Shaved some tin off, but it fits the can tighter now...and ventilated too.

AR-000 target. That’s a good one!
Nice to have that vented lid this summer when those garbage smells return.

Great shooting, RR, as always. Don't worry about that lid. Nothing a little (or a lot) of duct tape can't fix.
