Winchester 1892 and Vaquero

Post by Shakey Jake » Wed Nov 20, 2019 1:39 pm

A little background first. I had a Marbles tang site installed on the Winchester a while back and couldn't get the rifle where it wasn't hitting about 8 inches high at 50 yards. I emailed Marbles and Troy was very nice and suggested that I send the site back and let them shorten the stem. I was actually trying to get some advise on what height of sight I should get. He stated I needed to get at least .570 to get where I need but "....that would be too high." I thought before I send it back I'll just try a taller front sight. I got a .565 sight from Rangerpoint and installed it. My first shots were going way right (You can see this on the white of the target.) so I made note that I need to tap the front sight a couple of times a bit more to the left. Not taking my brass hammer with me I was left to adjust the windage on the Marbles. As you can see I got it fairly well placed at 50 yards. I went a bit too low before bringing it back to where I needed it. I was happy with the results for now that I decided I would take my brass hammer out with me the next time and move the front to the left a bit and re-zero.

I then went to the steel targets to have some fun with the Vaquero. I can tell you all the other shooters were coming over to me to see what I was shooting. Made me a bit proud to say the least.

I need to make a correction: The front sight needs to be drifted more to the right to bring POI to the LEFT. FORS.....Front Opposite, Rear Same. Just one of those "DUH" moments.

Yeah, I like it. All the range people are really friendly. They get a lot more business running their clay tournaments (Sporting, Skeet, Trap). I used to shoot on a skeet league there many moons ago but got out of it. Sold my Browning Citori 725 Skeet shotgun and reloaders. Wish I would have kept it now. It's selling used for over twice the price I sold it for.

I've never even held a Browning Citori so I have no first hand experience with one .... but from what I've hear they are fine shotguns

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......
