Another Buckeye
Another Ohio Henry fan. I love lever guns, and own 5 Winchesters, a Marlin and 3 Henrys. (if you won the "when will we hit 500" you're welcome ) I am former competition shooter and father to two more. My son set a national record in air rifle in high school, two years later his sister tied it and was considered a national record holder as well. My boy also lettered in rifle all four years at The Ohio State University, and has won 2 state championships in service rifle in North Carolina. Enough about them...I am a law enforcement officer, hunter and fisherman. Not supposed to discuss work on-line, but I was heavily involved with the addition of rifles to deer hunting in Ohio too.
That's likely enough for now.

Howdy from a fellow Buckeye.
I don't hunt deer but why only straight wall cartridges?

When a clown moves into a palace, he doesn't become a king. The palace becomes a circus.

Re: Another Buckeye
There was a lot of work done on that regulation, especially by the Buckeye Firearms Regulation. It took a few years to get it done. There was a lot of worry about the perceived "high power" rifles being too dangerous. But straight walled cartridge handguns were already allowed, so it was a logical move to allow the straight walled rifles. In addition, it was easy to transition to a simple definition of "straight wall, 357 to 50 caliber" instead of listing specific cartridges or calibers. The goal was to have a law that was easy to understand and enforce. Easy for the public, officers, judges and juries to understand. Not everyone is a firearms expert....
