Welcome. I don't know your background re: firearms or lever guns in particular, so forgive me if I sound preachy. Many new owners have no experience with firearms at all. First things, first. Do you know about the Henry Maintenance Videos on their website? If not, you'll find the series for your gun here:

https://www.henryusa.com/own-a-henry/he ... -boy-h006/

They use a .44 magnum for the video, but the process is the same for all the Big Boys, including the X models. The only real difference is the side gate and you shouldn't have to bother with that. There's 8 videos in this series covering lube, disassembly, reassembly, etc.

The first thing you should do before you shoot it for the first time is strip the gun down, inspect everything, and lube it as advised. You'll want to pickup a set of Gunsmith screwdrivers and punches, and the other tools/supplies shown in the video. DO NOT use common hardware store screwdrivers or punches. You can get the appropriate tools at most gun shops or order on-line from Brownells or others.

Good luck and enjoy your new Henry. :)

Hey 189. Gene knows his stuff. I encourage you to follow his instructions. Me? I’m just a shooter. Have the steel 357 carbine. What a gas!

Been shooting it for a few years. Absolutely love it. It eats any ammo, and begs for more.

You’ll love that x model, and want more.

Have fun buddy.

Remember, it's not how many guns you have. It's how many bullets you have.
