I've come up with a plan and as always, once I make a plan, its absolute and final, subject to change at any second .... with the Coleman Oven (as shown below in the first two pictures) there are 2 areas of concern .... first the grates (we have 2) .... as seen below the left one is much newer and shows much less rust .... pictures above show that at times the grates can come in direct contact with food .... as such, we are going to apply a food grade mineral oil coating after the grates are cleaned and the oven is not in use .... the second area is the floor of the oven that is directly exposed to the flames from the stove burner .... this area doesn't come in direct contact food .... for the floor (after cleaning) we will wipe it down with Ballistol .... in addition to lubrication, Ballistol helps in the cleaning process .... both the mineral oil and Ballistol will burn off during the process of warming up the oven so neither should have any impact on the food .... pictures 3 & 4 show a burner and grate on our new Bass Pro Stove .... as can be seen, the burner is already showing some rust and the protective coating of the grate has already been burned off .... since neither comes in direct contact with food, (after cleaning) we plan to coat them with Ballistol .... here again, it will burn off within seconds of the burner being lit .... it will be interesting to see how well this works

I'd be interested in your experience with the odder you get during burn off of the 2 different oils.

Food grade mineral oil or a light coating of olive oil.

8 days ago I lubed the new stove's burners with Ballistol, today I decided to take a good look at them .... in comparing pictures with what I saw today, no change at all .... no signs of any new rusting or corrosion .... very pleased with that .... to try and determine what would happen to the coating, I lit all three burners .... absolutely no difference in smell or performance .... the shiny coating on the burners and grates didn't last more than a few seconds, see 1st picture ..... the rest of the pictures show all three, the left, the center, and the right burner after being recoated .... I no longer have any concerns and do plan to continue protecting stove using Ballistol
