PT7 -- Tale of Two Targets

Good Day, Henry Folk.
As a couple of you have mentioned in another thread http://henryrifleforums.com/viewtopic.p ... re+is+evan I’ve not been on the HRF much recently. I’m still here in KCMO, and doing fine. I have even made quite a few range visits during this fall. Although CT_Shooter is in CT and I’m in MO, we keep track. Here is a little about our chats on my time away, and this post will be a catch up on my on-going shooting adventures. At the same time, I’ll post my latest Range Report from yesterday.
Wacky World of Black Powder.
CT told me there was an inquiry to the Henry Admins asking on how I’m doing. He shared with me his comment to the Admins:
He's spending more time on the Muzzle Loaders Forum these days. He's discovering the wacky world of black powder and is enjoying it quite a bit. He'll check in here occasionally, but feels a bit awkward because he no longer owns a Henry and doesn't shoot long guns.
Just wanted to say “thanks” to the Henry Admins for asking. I’m okay, but for sure muzzleloading is quite different than lever actions and CAS. I remember in particular that Big Al enjoys shooting BP guns. I’m very hooked on shooting my Trapper .50CAL cap & ball, single-shot pistol. ESquared had once made the comment to me that in this world “I’m learning to reload directly into a pistol barrel.” That’s an accurate description, and it’s been a lot of fun! One final thing on what CT said above. I don’t shoot long guns any longer. It would be cool to have a muzzleloader rifle, but that won’t happen. In fact, during the last ½ year I’ve pared down my gun cabinet to a grand total of three handguns. Of course my BP Trapper, one semi-auto .22LR fun plinker, and my .45 Colt revolver. I shoot these all well, always enjoying off hand, one-hand only shooting.
Range Report.
Shooting black powder is restrictive to mainly outdoors at least in the KCMO area. I’ve checked, but there are challenges, and expenses, for indoor shooting ranges to handle those floating rings of black powder smoke. So whenever a very good weather day crops up, I saddle up for the BP range where I’m now a member. What is really cool is that I don’t have to wait for a BP shoot, or any scheduled get together. Members get a key to the main gate at the range. I went yesterday, and had the entire range to myself. A last hurrah of fall happened, with blue sky and abundant sunshine, no wind, and temps hovering near 63* early afternoon. Very peaceful there surrounded by woods in every direction. Other than shooting I also enjoyed hiking around the different range areas.
I shot 10 round balls at a standard 25-yard ML pistol target. I took a close up of the 5-½” center of target showing the dead bull, 10 and 9 rings. All rounds were in target, but these show my second, third, and sixth POIs. The remaining POIs all landed in the five and six rings. My elevation for all shots was very good. Again I simply need to steady that wobbling barrel.
After shooting these rounds, I then shot 5 rounds at an “unexpected” target. From the last specialty shoot, someone didn’t clean up the shards of busted orange clays. I found one, and my photo also shows you the ⅓ section of 4” clay after someone hit it. Looks like it matches Henry Orange color. I also found the other ⅔ section which was intact. I mounted that piece on the wooden crossbar of the target board, and decided to shoot five rounds and attempt to hit it. Missed the first three, but exploded the clay on the next shot. Dead center hit and nothing left of the clay remnant! Wow, great fun and so was the grin on my face.
