Cool. 8-) Like the looks of your antler ramrod. Talk about smooth!

Cool again. 8-) Sharp-looking pistol. Especially like your wood grain a lot!
Wouldn't mind having a checkered grip like you have. Sure would be easier to grip the grip.

Thanks for your post.

Very nice. Most of my BP shooting was with a rifle so I just held my pistol grip on my thigh when loading it while bench shooting. One thing I did use when bench shooting was a small rubber mallet to start the ball. Lot easier on your hand, also made a ramrod with a flat smooth piece of antler, it spread the force out on your hand more than the ones with a ball. Also used it alone to load on trail walks.

I think I posted a photo of my pistol a while back but here it is again.

HURRAH! COMPLETED MY "MOD" today and added a grip support wood block. Check out the photos. Should protect the grip in case I get carried away with the ramrod! ;)

Ready to saddle up and get to the range again. Not only to try out the loading stand, but to shoot BP. Fun-Fun. :)

Nice work... I like the way you adjusted with the suggestions from the more experienced shooters.

Good idea on the padding. If you get revolver, you'll want to make one for it also. I made one for mine a while back that folds down to save some space in a bag. The major difference between one for a single shot and a revolver is that you have to provide a cut out for the cylinder so you can rotate it in the stand.

Thanks, Gunny. What I like about your build is that it folds down. Mine is quite bulky and no way can fit in any bag. However, I do have a strong piece of twine attached to the rear wall as a carry handle. Never showed that in my photos. But I definitely have the fold down feature in mind, if I were to build another loading stand someday.

No plans on getting a revolver. I have always wanted a single shot firearm, and the Trapper is perfect. Plus I've found that I really like shooting BP, mainly because of the loading activity and relaxed pace between shots. A very 8-) new shooting experience for me.

You Shouldn't have to get too 'carried away' with the ramrod but I am wondering how much pressure are you having to exert on it to seat the ball?

Very little. I can seat the round ball with my thumb.

This almost sounds a little 'loose'. You might want to up your patch thickness a couple thou.
What is your current patch thickness?

Does seem a little loose to me but if it shoots fine I guess it's OK. Mine is a .44 cal. using .433 balls and it takes a pretty good whack to start the ball, that was why I started using the rubber mallet. I did use pre-cut patches that were fairly thick.

Maybe you have exceptionally strong thumbs. ;)

BTW, have you seen a BP speed loader yet?
