Cleaning Marlin 336 vs Henry H009

Post by PJM » Wed Dec 18, 2019 6:14 pm

My son has a Marlin 336 in 35Rem which I bought him 30 years ago (one of the good ones). The only negative with it, other than the much maligned safety which everybody complains about, is getting at the trigger assembly and mag tube to clean. If you follow the owners manual it says don't remove the trigger plate, just degrease with spray and spray with light oil. I have to say the H009 CC is joy to clean esp the mag tube. The only caution is be sure you properly orient the lock block on reassembly. Failure to do so might get a little exciting on your next shot.

Hmm, I have a 36AW, which is basically a 336 with cheaper lumber and cheaper sights. It's from 1991. I think I have only ever cleaned the mag tube once when I complety disassembled the entire rifle just because I felt like it one day. Never really thought about cleaning the magtube. Should I? That thing is a bit of work, but not too bad to tear down from what I remember.

.
The internals of the mag tube for my Henry .30-30 had a lot of fine stuff left over from the factory when new. So I'd clean it out at least once.
