No Ed, I have had a S&W 686 since about 1982 and a S&W 500 Mag since 2003. Just don't recall having as much trouble cleaning the cylinder face on them, many times over the years.Mistered wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2019 7:34 amThis is correct - it's not lead.I doubt that's lead. Looks like just the typical powder burn from hot gas.
The bullet passes through the cylinder and does not make contact with the face of it.
Common powder burn more noticeable on a stainless steel gun.
Is this your First stainless steel gun?
Spring has sprung. Get out and shoot your Henry

Well that helps explain it then. This IS my first stainless rimfire. I shot 3 different brands of ammo. CCI Mini, Winchester, and Remington golden.
the gun favored the Winchesters and the Remington were noticeably dirty.

I have had four SS guns over the years - and one nickle plated - and they all got fouling on the cylinder face - and that was with jacketed ammo.

Once again, the ' Pro Shot' Lead-Clean cloth I picked up sure did work great. all wiped off like nothing.
Just CANOT be used on Blued or CCH. Not sure about nickel.

Probably not good on nickle either if not recommended for blued or CCH.Not sure about nickel.
I don't own that nickle plated gun anymore - wish I did (a 6" Colt Trooper) but I sold it because I couldn't bear to see the nickle beginning to wear and get scratched!

Definitely not nickel. You even have to be careful with solvents with nickel.

You have 10 cylinders? Don't you mean chambers? I see this all the time in written articles about revolvers.

Yes. My mistake Travlin, 10 chambers, one cylinder...my bad. I DO know the difference, as I know the difference between a clip and a magazine which are incorrectly used quite often.
