According to what I read somewhere the Ballistol aerosol version contain isohexane that is toxic, but its so low concentration so its graded as non-toxic. Even with totally safe solvents I would suggest using gloves beacuse of the residues it loosens up like lead its not so good to get on your hands anyway just to be safe I use gloves. For my daily guncleaning I use ballistol.
