.
Gonna get lead or copper. My experience, lead cleans out well with Hoppes#9. Copper not so much with Hoppes. For that a copper solvent like TetraGun is needed.

some more, clean after shooting lead before shooting jacketed. A build up of lead can cause higher pressure in the barrel for jacketed.

Mark,
It's my understanding that the exposed lead on jacketed soft point, jacketed hollow point, or semi-jacketed bullets doesn't make contact with the barrel as a cast or swagged lead bullet does and, therefore, doesn't introduce lead fouling to the barrel. Before he retired from the forum (for political reasons), TxGunrunner, a well-respected firearms expert, was adamant and outspoken about using both lead and jacketed bullets in the same firearm. I'm sure there are other opinions about this, but I've accepted his advice and only shoot jacketed bullets in my .357 BBB and SAA revolver.

... how does one keep from sending lead through the barrel without going FMJ ammo?
Thank you Stan. Maybe I should be concerned then with the HSM 180 gr 357 Bear loads I bought for SD while at the cabin? Was going to use them if needed in my S&W 686 and my BBS 357. They were not cheap.
