I purchased a 44 mag Big Boy this week the salesman told me not to get any bore cleaning solvent on any of the brass he said it would discolor it, is this so. I haven’t shot it yet but did clean the barrel from the factory testing being careful not to get any Hoppes cleaner on the outside of the reciever, didn’t seem to bother the inside though.
Thanks in advance

Big Boy brass reciever and bore cleaner
Re: Big Boy brass reciever and bore cleaner
Congratulations on the Big Boy. I also have one chambered in .44 and it is my favorite rifle.
I have not noticed any issues with Hoppes no. 9 or with Break Free CLP. You can probably polish it right out if Hoppes or another solvent stains the receiver. The Hoppes seems to clean the inside of the receiver very nicely.

Re: Big Boy brass reciever and bore cleaner
Welcome to the forum from CT. I agree with DavidF. I've used both Hoppes #9 and CLP and haven't noticed any problems with the brass receiver or brass brushes and jags. But, I have read warnings for some copper solvents that recommend avoiding contact with brass.
