Big Boy cleaning tip

Post by SloopJohnB » Sun Oct 22, 2017 1:14 pm

I had this posted in the wrong forum.

Here's a cleaning tip

On my Big Boy 45LC (and should be the same for all Big Boys) -- There is very little room to depress the hammer completely down while trying to remove the bolt. It is tedious to say the least.
Find one of these hook and loop cinch straps that have a buckle. Then to remove the bolt, simply take one screw out to remove the lever and strap the hammer down tight. It will give you about .050" clearance on the bolt. Easy peasy with no marring anywhere.

As for the cinch straps -- I bought a combo package of Envisioned from Amazon. Various sizes for which I use in other jobs. I guess there are other outlets but this was the easiest for me.

For the Henry, I use the 3/4" x 8".

It's a Skinner peep, modified with a Merit Iris shutter that brings the peep closer to your eye and allows for variable opening aperture. I've also modified the front sight using a Lyman Globe with Lee Shaver insert "reticles".
