Scopes for 452 CZs

Post by Sir Henry » Sat Feb 29, 2020 10:32 am

These two rifles are up next for a range trip. The 452 .ZKM Scout has a new to it Leupold scope. The 452-2E American still has the Nikon.

I love this P-22 scope. It has a bullet drop adjustment that seems to be very accurate between 25 and 100 yards. I haven’t shot it past 100.

The Leupold VX-1 2-7x28 has more contrast but isn’t as bright. A far better choice than the vintage Weaver Marksman 4X that came off.

All the magazine are loaded although I suspect we will both want to use the single loader.

That adjustment looks like it's for what? .... standard velocity, (1200-1300).
That's fast for match ammo.
I had a Simmons with an adjustment knob for 17wsm. I prefer regular old MOA adjustment. Usually 1/4 or 1/8 MOA per click.
Calculate MOA adjustments for all my tang and receiver sights also.

Good eye! It is really close enough. It also came with the hyper turret. If I ever shoot beyond 100 I think I would need the standard velocity turret.

Right now it’s sighted for 50 yards so the 25 and 100 are close. If I wanted to shoot to 150 I would make 100 my dead-on distance.

Gene, I have that same CZ 452 Scout I bought my son when he was 12. Great little shooters. I recently put a Tasco "World Class" 1.5-5x28mm scopre on it. You don't see a lot of those 452 Scout's around. You'll enjoy your range time with those two rifles.

For those using low power scopes (1.5-5, 2-7) don’t you find the magnification to be too low for seeing bullet strikes at a range? Or do you use these CZs for plinking cans?

IMHO a 2-7x is stellar on a big bore pistol caliber or .45-70 rifle, a 12x or greater is best on a small bore. My 455 Varmint in .22LR/ 17 HMR has a 6-12x40 and it really isn’t enough scope.....

I do know what you mean about not being Abe to see the bullet hole in the targets with those little 17 cal bullets.
But I also found that those higher magnification scope took some of the fun out of off hand shooting. Hard to keep a sight picture on anything over 12x.

I'd rather use a lower power magnification when shooting and use a spotting scope.
I use my Weaver T24 target scope on my sandbags as my spotting scope

I guess a lot depends on your eye sight. I am 71 and have eyes better than a 71 year old should have. My eye doctor told me in January at my appointment I have the best eyes he had ever checked on an older person and better than a lot of people not much over half my age. I was shooting paper targets with one of my Ultra Lux CZ's and a Grand Finale earlier in February with a 2-7 Leupld with the very fine duplex on the UL and the GF had a 4-12X40 AO fine duplex. The UL had the scope set up at 7X and the GF had the 4-12 set at 10X for the shooting we were doing at 51 yds. My friend had his scope set at 24X on one and 30X on the other. My groups were just as good as his and a few were actually better. Several of my rifles I shoot paper with have straight 6X Leupolds on them. I shoot bulls eye targets I make using the hole in a CD disc for the circle. I don't feel like I ever need to shoot tin cans because of my low powered scopes. So I really think having good vision also helps with a scope and not just iron sights. Here is a target I shot on the trip to the range in early Feb. with the rifles and scopes I mentioned above. All targets are at 51 yds. and all are 5 shot groups except the left target the right upper and lower targets were 6 shots.

That is actually one of the reasons I went with a higher power. To me a 7x is high power compared to the 4X. I do have a 24x on a 455 in .17HMR.
