Dovetail filler update page 2

Post by shootest » Fri Mar 15, 2019 1:46 pm

I removed my rear site on my Henry BBS .357 carbine. Ranger Point sells a shaped dovetail filler. Without removing the front hand guard my measurement closest to the hand guard is .6570” in diameter. They offer .900” and .850”, has anyone installed one of these and what size did you get?
I’m thinking of getting the .850” and fit it, but they run $34 and I don’t want to waste my money.

Shootest, thanks for looking into this. I am interested also. My measurements are similar to yours. The barrel, measured on top of the hand guard, is about .725. I know this is not the full diameter. But it gives us an indication.

The .850 filler is as big as I can imagine being right.

I agree on not wanting to waste money or time. Makes it a challenge, eh?

I am going to try it. Can't say when. I will update you when I do.

Are these what you're looking for - or am I just being thick? :?

Check out Skinner's dovetail blanks for Henrys. I have the version that mounts an extra aperature for their rear peep sight, but they also offer a simple blank to fill the slot for $7.00.

Man, got bumped again by a nearly simultaneous post. Starting to bug me.

Anyway, Les, you're not thick! The Precision filler is contoured to be flush with the circumference of the barrel when it's installed, such that you can barely see it once it's drifted in.

As noted, one pays quite the premium for such aesthetics, which I've not been able to justify so far!

@Les No not thick, this is what I’m talking about. It fits the contour of the barrel.

Here is what the .850" looks like on a BBS 44Mag Carbine.

They fit a little loose - I used some blue loctite to glue it in place. Gives a nice clean look to a round barrel Henry...

I’m interested in this as well. When my budget allows I want to put a Skinner Big Boy Express rear sight on my BBSC 357. I’d live to be able to usu this flush dovetail filler.

They do give a nice clean look - wish they also made them for Octagon barrels...
