Red Dot on H001Y

Post by csgrv » Fri Jan 25, 2019 7:57 pm

Hello All,

My wife has a Red Dot to mount on her rifle but I would like some opinions on a 3/8 to Picatinny/Weaver adapter to fit this rifle.

Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

Photos would be nice also.

Thanks!

I put one on my pump and then a red dot on it. I really like the red dot on the pump. Here is the rail I bought and it fit great. Im assuming the receiver is the same size on the youth model that just the stocks are changed.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

I've done that on other rimfire grooved receivers, using a Weaver adapter. It is doable, but it will raise the red dot up higher than it would otherwise be. Most shooters find that the lower the red dot on the receiver, the more comfortable, especially on a lever gun. Just how much a negative this might be for her, if any at all, will be for her to decide, of course. Worth a try.

Now, if you don't already have a red dot, then the older 1" tube style red dots can be mounted just like any 1" tube scope to your Henry by using 22 rings. For instance, here's an Ultradot 25 mounted on the grooved receiver of a Winchester 9422 using standard 22 rings. The problem, of course, is that most of the popular red dots, now, are weaver base, only, setups. The older 1" tube style dots are harder find, these days.

Thank you both for the suggestions. Unfortunately she already owns a Red Dot that she really like so 1" ring mount is not an option.
The rail from DIP looks great and has great reviews also. I will be showing to the wife as it is her rifle and she has final say on any
add ons or modifications.

Thank you Both!!

I have a red-dot on a tricked out 10/22. I find it easier to find the target and shoot accurately with both eyes open. Maybe its just me, but I find it fun to use that way.

Both eyes open: Peripheral vision is doubled, able to see the 1x dot even if the weak-side eye is dominate and you can quickly acquire an additional target if the eyes move first and rifle follows.
