Big Boy Steel .357 Has New Outlook!

Post by ESquared » Wed Aug 15, 2018 2:28 pm

Just got this zeroed in this AM (1" high at 50 yds) and thought I'd share a couple of pics. Sorry about the "assorted rags" backdrop, but the gun-bench isn't exactly a photo studio.

It's the BBS one-piece mount that HenryPride had on backorder for quite awhile (made by Talley) and the scope is the highly-recommended (by NCG) Leupold VX Freedom 1.5-4X20.
The great thing about being so new to all of this is that everything is fantastic, because I have nothing to compare it to.
So, my perspective is that, for a rifle with a realistic range of 20 to 85 (maybe 100 or so) yards, this scope gives me just enough reach to compensate for my old(er) eyes, without looking odd on the rifle.
And, in the poorly lit indoor range I've been harping about, the target at 50 yards looks like it's lit up by a spotlight, so there's that!
Anyway, thanks for looking and thanks again to many of you who gave me some good advice along the way on this development!
Happy camper!

Yep, 158 gr Hornady XTP. Next time a get it out, I'll take pics of a target or two, as now I feel I can really begin to discern what the Fiocchi will do vs. the MagTech vs. the Hornady.

Looks very nice, ESquared. The finish on the scope and rifle are very closely matched. It doesn't look at all "odd" on your Henry, and I think you chose well. I know your eyes have already agreed on that.

Mostly I'm looking ahead to see the whitetail deer harvest you'll bring home this fall :!: :) :!:

Good to see it all finally come together. The black and black look good together and along side the dark wood.

Well, many of us have learned that "Matte Black" is not always "Matte Black" everywhere. But, I agree, can't complain about the color match.

Thanks for your kinds words!

Thanks, guys. Yeah, "finally," huh? Nice little set-up, and aesthetics matter, don't they (even though the deer don't care!)?

Looks great to me! I'm about to install a very similar set up on my BBS, ( Weaver 1-3 x 20 ) and the same Talley mount. Thanks for the great pics. It shows me in advance how mine will look.

Same set up as OP, I did add a hammer extension though.
