First of all welcome to the forum.

The quick answer is yes. Any time you change the weight and speed of the bullet the point of aim will need to be changed or you would need to re-zero the rifle which is what most people do. You might be able to get a scope with changeable turrets that will do the job by adjusting it.

Welcome to the forum!

What distances will you be shooting, and how precise do you need to be?

Good questions because if its plinking up close you don't need to be concerned.

Hi...thanks for the reply.
Distance 100 -150 yd
Precise 2"radius would work nicely for me
Wondering would a bore sight be of any help ?
Thanks

You will need to adjust for the difference. I'm not hot on bore sights and just start out shooting close. It doesn't take long to get it close which is all a bore sight will do. Once you have sighted in for both then just remember the number of clicks.

All bullets start to drop as soon as they leave the bore, pistol rounds even more so. If the barrel of a rifle is bore sighted looking straight down the bore for example at a target 100 yards away the 45-70 405 gr bullet traveling at approximately 1350 fps. the bullet would drop 10'' below the line of sight (bore) before reaching the target. In an exaggerated example that is why barrels point up and the sights point down, for the most efficient and quickest way to shoot is to sight in your firearm for maximum point blank range or zeroing in the rifle where the bullet does not "rise 4'' or fall over 4'' from the point of aim or leave the theoretical 8'' kill zone for most medium game without having to adjust the sights or scope. Every rifle bullet combo is going to be different. One more example the 30.06 approximately has a 260 yard point blank zero.
