I have no clue how many scopes I've mounted on rifles and revolvers over the years .... the fact is, I usually get them close but never get them to when I look through the scope I don't realize the cross hairs are off a bit .... a while back I spoke with a fellow whose evaluations I trust and he highly recommended getting a Wheeler Professional Reticle Leveling System ===> https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004T ... 0DER&psc=1 <=== a few minutes ago I pulled the trigger (pun intended ) and ordered one .... with a 5 star rating after 448 reviews on Amazon, I figure it must work .... when it arrives my hope is to keep it busy for a while correctly mounting scopes on a good number of rifles

I use to struggle leveling scopes; tighten them and they move have to redo........

These type systems make it a pleasure.

just checked and per Amazon tracking, the Wheeler Leveling System should be here today .... from watching numerous videos about using it, they all demonstrate a need to be able to hold the rifle steady while installing a scope .... that leads me to looking at Gun Vices .... the two I'm leaning toward are the Tipton Best Gun Vise ===> https://www.amazon.com/Tipton-181181-Be ... D1Y5JHFD76 <=== and the Lyman Revolution Gun Vise ===> https://www.amazon.com/Lyman-7832250-Re ... n+gun+vise <=== comments from anyone who may have experience with either vice or know of a better option would be appreciated

I've got a Tipton "Best Gun Vise" - it's ok, but it's plastic and sometimes you wish you had the capability to turn the rifle on it's side like the Lyman. I didn't buy the Lyman because of the less than stellar reviews. I also bought an MTM gun vise - less expensive than both the Tipton and Lyman - I think dollar for dollar, the MTM is the best value for a "plastic" vise - it's also American made. The plastic vices work, but they flex under pressure and always felt a little cheap to me - especially when you need to really hold the rifle for torquing a screw or pushing a tight cleaning rod down the barrel. I finally bit the bullet and got the "Versacradle" from Berry's Manufacturing (same guys who make bullets). It is crazy expensive, but it is a really heavy duty vise - really holds any rifle in about any position and gives you a confident feeling that the gun won't move on you while you're working on it. I wish I had bought it from the start, because it's the only vise I use, now.,..

info most certainly appreciated .... well understood on the evaluations stating concern about them being plastic and somewhat flimsy .... what have you heard about Tipton's Ultra Gun Vise ===> https://www.amazon.com/Tipton-110011-Ul ... a+gun+vise <=== according to their literature and video, they have addressed flimsy issue though metal braces .... I'd never heard of the VersaCradle, most interesting but as you note, crazy expensive .... so much so that it would take some serious convincing for my CFO (chief female officer)

I have the Lyman Revolution vice. It's well made, even though the majority of it is plastic. It holds the rifle securely, and the ability to rotate the rifle 45° either side of vertical is very useful.

I doubt whether it would stand up to much 'professional level' gunsmithing, but for mounting scopes and for cleaning/repairs etc, I think it's very good.

First I've heard of the Tipton "Ultra Gun Vise" - looks like it is heavier duty and a lot more adjustable than their "Best Gun Vise" - don't know if it's worth the extra $100 over an MTM or not - probably worth checking out in person at a Cabella's....
