Leupold 4-12 AO

Post by bandit1250 » Mon Mar 27, 2017 10:20 pm

I took my wife out to dinner this evening. We were in Somerset county and there is still snow in areas up there especially at the higher elevations. It was pretty with all the green grass now showing and the nice white snow against all that green. I never have my camera when I could get such a pretty picture. It won't last long now as it was near 70* in Somerset at the restaurant at around 4:00 PM. Some of the gullies have snow in them several feet deep from the last snow and the drifting. There is still some big drifts along the road on Rt. 160. Well we were a little early so we went by my LGS and looked around. I saw he had a new Leupold Vari-XII 4-12X 40 AO matte finish scope for $304. He was busy with customers so I may call tomorrow and lay away one for that price. I think that model scope is in the low to mid $400 range most places. Would be nice on a rim fire having the AO on it.

I love those old Leupolds. Just be sure to check the minimum focus distance on that AO if you plan to shoot up real close with your rimfires. Some of those centerfire Leupolds with AOs don't focus down too close. Doesn't make it a deal breaker, of course. Just means it may not work as hoped for real close in shooting.

NCG, The lowest setting marked on it is 25 Yds. but it will still move down farther. If I was putting it on an air gun that would bother me but not at all on a rim fire. I have one on my Remington 541S and it works great. If for some reason I don't like it on a rim fire it will find a home on my 222 Sako. I called earlier and had it put on layaway.

You're definitely good to go, then. Congrats on a great find.
