Fiber sight on Long Ranger?

Post by ranmcc » Wed Nov 13, 2019 8:53 am

Has anyone put fiber sights on Long Ranger? What brand? Comments. Is the sight dovetails 3/8inch? I see where Tru glo has 3/8. LR has fold down rear sight.

.
I haven't. I scoped my LR.
A leaf style rear sight might not work on the Long Ranger. The back of the barrel slopes toward the rear sight. The back of a leaf style sight would rest on the barrel slope and might be too high relative to the front sight. HiVis offers a rear fiber sight for the 10/22 Ruger that might work.

Does your front sight have a dovetail sight or is it screwed on. Mine has a dovetail.

[updated with corrections]
My front sight is a 2 piece assembly [ramp and sight]. The sight is dove tailed. The ramp is not.

My front sight is a 2 piece. The upper is dove tailed.
Just for clarification purposes for the OP the front sight is 'technically' not two piece.

The sight itself is only one peice. The part screwed to the barrel is called the 'ramp' and is more or less left 'permanently' on the barrel and not often replaced unless some dramatic sight modification or changes are made.

Ordered the Ruger 22 optic fiber sight but front sight is way to high to fit the Long Ranger.

Sight height has nothing to do with fit. Technically, the front sight should 'fit' - as in the dovetail - but might be too tall for your sight plane.

Is this what you are referring to or am I missing something?

The front sight on the Long Ranger measures 0.351. The Ranger Point .350 could be a good choice.
Their website recommends 0.500 for the Long Ranger, but that is way too tall, unless also replacing the rear sight with something taller. Which they give no guidance on.
