Skinner Express Sight

Post by Deka » Tue Apr 09, 2019 10:14 am

Good afternoon Gentlemen and Ladies.
I need your advise please from anyone who has fitted a Skinner Express sight.
I shoot a Henry H010 in 45/70 for BPCR comps and hunting.
At present I have to remove the scope for the comps and use the factory semi buckhorn sights. I manage but my
old eyes struggle with those sights.
It was suggested I look at Skinner sights to improve the sight picture.
I'm considering the Express Sight with Scope Mount to replace the scope rail I use now.
I have studied the Skinner Website but I can't find the info I need.
1) Will I have to replace the front sight? My Henry is a current model with the front sight dovetailed into the barrel. The
website says front sights with the white stripe???? should be OK.
2) Will I have to remove the rear sight?
3) The scope rail is an airgun/.22lr unit. Will .22lr scope rings cope with the strong recoil on my 300gn hunting loads?

I could just order the sight and hope for the best but as I'm over here in England I have to pay heavy import and carriage
charges. Returning or ordering extra items would make the project unviable.

Any advice would be appreciated,
Cheers
Derek

I have a Marlin 1895CB with Express sights. Had to replace front sight. I would order one from Skinner, try with old front sight and if you are shooting high replace with Skinner blade. About 12 bucks and is you dont use it you will on something else. Know that Skinner blade you file it to raise POI

Hi Deka. I ended up ordering Skinner’s patridge front sight when I ordered my Express. I believe I ordered the 1/2” wide .600 for my Big Boy .357, so I wouldn’t go any smaller for your .45-70. You can easily adjust the height of it with a file. I also found the standard .096 aperture to be the best size for hunting, and I’d go .070 for target work. I’d order the extra $35 worth of parts now, so you don’t have to do it twice. “Better to have it and not need it” is a good rule of thumb for those of us that are ordering from outside the USA.
