Sight pusher?

Post by GunnyGene » Thu Sep 20, 2018 10:21 am

Does anyone know of a sight pusher that will work for the Henry buckhorn rear sight? I've looked on the web - no joy. I don't like to do the tap thing, although I have on other guns. I could probably make something, but would prefer a inexpensive commercial one.

Don't know of any, Gunny. I think a homemade pusher would be doable, but you might have to remove the forearm on the Henry to make it work. I've always just used a brass punch and have never had an issue, though some factory dovetail sights can be a real bear to remove. Just depends on the individual gun.

Brass punch works well for me...and have often done that work. Have to agree with Henry about "patience." That helps. ;)

Brass punches, proper mallet and a bench vise is pretty much the set up for those dovetailed Henry sights. I'd never done it three months ago, now I've done it a half dozen times. Sometimes, the insert you are putting into the space left on your barrel may take some fitting, so the triangular file that Skinner sells is $20 well spent.

Alright, it seems my question has been answered. I have everything I need to drift a sight, and know how to do it, so no need to pursue this further. Thanks.
