Help with brain fart

Post by .45Steel » Sun Jan 28, 2018 3:19 pm

I've been shooting long enough that I ought to be able to figure this out....but I'm having a major brain fart here.
I finally got to the range with my Henry Steel .45 colt with a new Skinner Express sight. I put the target at about 40 yrds. or so. First 2 shots were 8 or 9 inches low. I Moved the peep up higher and the point of impact was higher. I moved the peep up more...to the point that 1 and 1/2 more turns and the peep comes out. At this point I'm still shooting about an inch low. My question is...do I need a taller front sight or a lower one. In a nut shell, I can't raise the peep any higher and I'm still hitting low. Thanks.

Yes, shorter front sight gets you higher. If it's a blade front, you can always just file down as needed. If it's a bead, you can break off the bead, but that's pretty drastic.

Another option is to contact Andy at Skinner. He may get you a taller aperture stem for your express rear sight. Pretty sure he has them. Be the quickest, easiest fix.

Remember, it's not how many guns you have. It's how many bullets you have.

Thank you sir. I do like that term better.
Any how...I didn't think I'd like the post sticking up so high so I had an email conversation with Andy at Skinner and he steered me in the right direction. A shorter front sight has been ordered. He was very helpful. Top notch customer service.
