Vortex Venom mount
I have a henry 45-70, and wanted to install a Vortex Venom micro red dot on my rifle. I don't want to install a picatiny rail , because that adds more hight. I'd like to use a direct mount. I found this burris fastfire mounting plate that the vortex should fit on. It says it fits a marlin 336. Should that fit?

first, welcome to the forum, happy to have you join us .... I can't see how you can mount the sight in your link without some type of picatiny rail type of base .... that said, I'm sure others with much more knowledge in this area will jump in .... please consider going to our How Many ? thread at the link below and adding your Henry to our community total

Re: Vortex Venom mount
I mounted a similar style of red dot on my Big Boy steel. I used a scope mounting rail that screwed into the tapped holes in the top of the receiver that are there for this purpose. I used a short rail made for a different weapon, and had to make a minor modification to the rail to make it fit. Henry makes rails that fit perfectly without modification. Just be sure to make sure the size of the rail is compatible with the red dot.

Clovis, I didn't want a rail, because it would add to the height of the red dot. If you notice in the picture, you don't need to use the mount. You can actually screw the red dot directly into the mount. These micro red dots are popular in handguns, as they don't add a ton of height.clovishound wrote:I mounted a similar style of red dot on my Big Boy steel. Here's a Marlin with the Micro red dot on it.

Re: Vortex Venom mount
The Henry rail adds a fair amount of height to it. The Weaver rail I got adds very little, although I did have to elongate one of the screw holes to get it to mount.
BTW, that quick mount will add some height, although perhaps not as much as a rail. It says will fit virtually any rifle. You could email Burris and see if it will fit the Henry.
FYI, daughter and I both loved the holo red dot on our Henry. We ended up moving on to a scope, but would definitely not be unhappy to go back to the red dot.

I don't have any first hand experience with a Marlin, but Skinner's website says that any of their Marlin 336 receiver sights will fit a large frame Henry 45-70. Bottom line - I think it will fit...

Re: Vortex Venom mount
Has anybody ever tried the Marlin mount on the Henry rifles? I will be experimenting with getting a FastFire mounted on my .327FM soon.

Re: Vortex Venom mount
FYI, I tried a Vortex Viper on my BBB 357 using Henry's picatinny mount and it didn't have enough up range adjustment to get anywhere near POI.
