Big Boy peep sight
Re: Big Boy peep sight
FPTK would be the go, for sure. But can one be mounted to a Big Boy without having to get new holes tapped?

Re: Big Boy peep sight
The front sight I put on my .357 BB was a Skinner .75" along with a Williams FP and I think I filled about .10" off the front sight to get it close to zero.

The Williams 336 mounts on the top in the existing holes in the reciever of a Big Boy.

It is in fact, is available in the 336 model.and I don't know if the 336 is available in this style.
Always wanted to try a TK style but being a cheapskate I just have always bought used, basic set screw style for my rifles! Hey they work just as well for less than half the price!

If you are not needing to constantly change site settings, the target knobs are intrusive.Mistered wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2020 9:53 pmIt is in fact, is available in the 336 model.and I don't know if the 336 is available in this style.

A a matter of fact I've come to consider the windage target knob superfluous.
I never change the windage once I have a setting. As a matter of fact Williams says that the Windage Locking Screw be tight for every shot.
Not so the Elevation Locking Screw.

Kinda wondered about this as well.the target knobs are intrusive.
Windage change is typically unnecessary but elevation sometimes requires minor changes and I can deal with the set screws for that.
OK - No TK sights for me - ever!

Other option might have to be a skinner, and do away with the adjustments. If I installed a dovetail skinner, instead of the receiver mounted, would the original front post be at the correct height?

Re: Big Boy peep sight
This can almost never be answered by simply asking.would the original front post be at the correct height?
One has to typically perform a sight height calculation for the particular rifle the front sight is being mounted on and then actual shooting to confirm it.
What might be right for one person shooting the rifle may be different for another due to differences in holding the rifle, LOP & other considerations.

What did you use for your front sight with this rear peep set up?Mistered wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2020 9:38 amIt's not a physical modification but just a matter of reversing the windage slider and mounting the sight in reverse.the sights have to be modified some to fit the brass receiver models.
Otherwise the sight can be mounted the way it is but it will hang off the rear of the receiver about a 1/2".
This is my BBB with the sight mounted in reverse.

Re: Big Boy peep sight
The original gold bead front that came with my Henry was fine and I'll measure it when I get home later!
My original Henry sight is .390 however I remember wanting a higher profile on the rear peep so I swapped it out for a .470 blade from a Winchester I had which for a 50 yard '6 O'Clock' sight picture puts my rear elevation ramp about two notches high from the centerline mark on the sight base.
Basically just right.
