Spring has sprung. Get out and shoot your Henry
Back to a Skinner
Back to a Skinner
Had a scope on my brass 45-70, but just didn’t like the looks of it on that lever gun, so I put a Skinner barrel mount peep back on it, and all is well. Shot it yesterday, and after some fine tuning, the gun is ready for close range hunting, and the look and handling is more of what I want in a lever gun. I suppose that I am an old fuddy duddy, but so be it.

I feel the same as you. I scoped my Henry .22 Classic mainly for the grandkids. The rest of my lever guns have Skinner peep rear sights. I am not a long range shooter.

I love the looks of the Skinner on my Henry 357 Carbine, and it's a shooter at the ranges at which I can see to shoot.

Re: Back to a Skinner
Like George Washington, I cannot tell a lie. It was from a bench. But it wasn't in a mount or anything, I aimed 'er and pulled the trigger.
Before I switched to the Skinner Peep, I was shooting shotgun patterns. The eyes didn't like the factory blade sight. That Skinner reminds me of the sights on the M1 Garand, M14, or the M16... Shot them all out to 500 and 600 yards. Back when even my eyes were young.

Yes, I remember when M14 and M16 aperture sights were no problem on long range shots. That ship has sailed, at least for me, but the Skinner works just fine to 100 yards or so, and I don’t shoot at stuff much farther than that, anyway.

Me either, If I don't have one of the Grandkids along, I can't see things that far away.
Isn't that what we HAVE grandkids for?
