I bought a Marble's slot blank for my H009. I have got it drove in to about 1/8' off center. I contacted Marble and was told that the slot require filing to fit. My question: What would be a good method to use to file the blank? I have no machine shop tools. But, I do have some 600 grit sand paper and a hand grinder. Yet, I am concern about a even (or uniform) filing.
Thanks,

Fitting a Rifle Slot Blank
Re: Fitting a Rifle Slot Blank
A dovetail blank needs to be 'stoned' on the bottom until proper fit is obtained. What would be a good method to use to file the blank?
You need to use a bench stone and slide the blank on it so it removes only a small amount of metal evenly until proper fit is obtained.
Typically all that is necessary is to 'stone' it enough to smooth it out and remove the bluing and that is usually enough.
You could probably do this as well by laying a sheet of say 320 grit wetordry sandpaper on a hard flat surface. 600 will be too fine. Use oil as well.

Second to a stone I use a set of small set of buba files for that work.
Remove metal only from the blank never the rifle.

As a follow-up, the stone and the oil worked. I basically just removed the finish on the bottom of the blank. It centered up nicely. Thanks again!
