I just bought one of these to put on my Ruger 22/45 Ultra Lite. I really like green dots better than red dots. Im weird I guess. But this sight has some nice features and I was able to get it zeroed yesterday at the range. It comes pre zeroed for 25 yards and was really close. The solar feature is nice and it has the auto off after 10 min of no movement. This is the second green dot I have bought and I am going to get another as I am going to take the scope off my Ruger 10/22. Im really liking shooting with the dot. I think the reflex sights look just fine on a levergun and are a good alternative for issues with seeing the irons. I have 2 barrels for the 22/45 and one has a Sig Romeo 5 on it.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

I also prefer a green dot to a red dot. Our eyes are more sensitive to the color green than red. In fact, our eyes can detect more shades of the color green than shades of any other color. Just wish that more dots came in the green color.
I like shooting with dots, too. They solve a lot of problems that come with shooting iron sights. Okay, not as traditional, but I'll bet Annie Oakley would have used red dots if they were available in her day.

Green dots are a winner. I know several folks that have and issue seeing the red dots clearly. So green dots to the rescue.

Re: Holosun 407C
I bought a cheap dot sight for a crossbow I have that only used pin sights. It has either red or green depending upon which way you turn the knob. I have to say that the green works much better for me in low light. The red is just too bright on even the lowest settings, and it washes out the area around it when looking through the sight. The green seems to do that much less for me.
That Holosun looks like a nice unit, but a little pricey.

I agree with the price point but not as pricey as an Eotech or a Aimpoint. There are cheaper green dots out there like Cyelee. As with anything else that cost more features command a higher price point. Size of dot the solar power and quality of the glass Im sure made this sight a little more money.rickhem wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2024 6:29 amI bought a cheap dot sight for a crossbow I have that only used pin sights. Re: Holosun 407C
I have a few Holosuns (red and green) on pistols and long guns. Generally dots are good for relatively short range (under 30yds or so), and I prefer to use the circle reticle for pistols and short range long guns (shotgun, etc.) for that. Easier to pick up the target with the circle for me and accurate enough. For longer ranges I'll use a scope on a rifle dedicated for that purpose, where precise shot placement is important.

Bellum Omnium Contra Omnes is rapidly becoming a reality (11/2023). Para Bellum.

Re: Holosun 407C
I've actually used red dots out to as far as 100 yards.
Mostly, I use red dots for under 100 yard shooting, typically 50 yards for range work with both handguns and rifles. They do a great job at that distance. Contrary to internet lore, you do not need a tiny dot to get good accuracy. A 3 MOA or 4 MOA dot can do very well. Although they are very easy to use, it does take some practice with red dots to get the most from them.

Re: Holosun 407C
I really want to put the Holosun reflex on the 357x but I love the fiber optic sights it came with.
Any long term on those Holosun reflex sights for rifles? I’ve scoped the 30-30 but feel a nice skinned peep would look better and I’m just plinking so it’s not getting shot over 100 yards.

I dont think Chuck Conners would have used one on his levergun but if available back then I bet they would have been on some of the leverguns. I think they look fine on a levergun and a skinner peep sight works to. I to like fibers and if they work on the X model use them. No need for change if you like them. I have one on a Henry Single shot and like it alot.
