Broke My Front Sight on One of my Rifles.
Something I usually do not practice is stand up my rifle against the bench. Well, the rifle tipped over and hit the edge of an ammo box. At first, I did not notice anything until I saw a white circle laying on the dark carpet. It was the front bead of the front sight yuck. So. I went to the hardware store and was looking for brass nails or small brass stock. No go on both of my endeavors so I called the manufacturer, and they said it would be about 4 weeks, but it was free.
So, in I drilled out the bead tang in the sight. Then I cut a 1/4" piece of brass square stock marked the center and drilled it. The tang of the drill bit was the same size of the hole in the site bead. I then fluxed and melted the brass on the end of the drill bit. I chucked up the drill bit and used the press as a vertical lathe. Using several files, I formed the bead to the correct size and polished it with 800 grit paper. I then cut the drill bit to the correct length to fit in the bead sight hole. Once I dry fitted everything, I then broke out the JB weld and made it permanent.

Ingenuity wins again. Cool thinking. I completely removed the front sight bead on my Henry. It works well as a blade sight.

Remember, it's not how many guns you have. It's how many bullets you have.

nice work, I think I would have just bought a new one. You could have replaced it with either a brass, pearl (white) or fiber optic, for about $25.

Yup but where is the challenge in that besides 25 bucks can be put to better use like another bottle of Revival Jimmy Red Burbon Whiskey.

I actually made the bead sight a little bit smaller, and powder coated it day glow orange. It makes a big difference to see the orange instead of the brass.
