Henry scope mount red dot question

Post by shatfield56 » Thu Dec 10, 2020 7:22 am

Stopped in a local gun shop looking for a front sight for my Canik. While there started talking about my Henry 44. After looking at a scope and a red dot I decided to get this ...

UTG 6" ITA Red/Green CQB T-dot Sight with Offset QD Mount

https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source= ... Kpef9yB5z7

The folks there recommended it and I liked the optics. I realize it's not very expensive. Bought it due to recommendation. Got it home and put the Henry sight mount on no problem. Went to put the red dot and discovered it won't fit properly. I can either try to cut a slot in the Henry rail or take it back. Loved the looks of it. Could almost get it sighted in.. Loved the visual t dot. What are your thoughts on whether I should return the UTG or cut the slot for it?

Im guessing the mount you have isnt a mount like should be used with that scope. You need a picatinny type mount. Can you not change the mount to that type rather that cutting a slot in it.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

How is it not fitting properly? Are the two mounts on the sight further apart than the Henry mount allows. Is your Henry mount the rail type or the standard?

Oops, Al and I were typing at the same time. Same questions.... :D

My Henry mount is the rail type Al mentioned and I’m sure your sight would mount on it just fine.

Al and Hatchdog I decided to pick up a picatinny rail. The 2 slots in the Henry mount were too far apart. Thanks.

Good deal. Let us know how you like that red dot after you try it out. I have red dots on a couple of my Henrys. Actually prefer a red dot over a scope myself.

Big Al I took it to the range yesterday (with the Henry rail that it didn't fit right.) I fit the red dot into the front slot and left the rear unsecured and slightly elevated sitting higher on the mount, but tight. I ended up not being able to lower the reticle enough because the scope was angled slightly downward. Even still I got it to hit the target.
I bought it on the salesman's recommendation, then found several reviews that weren't the greatest. I'm hoping it works out because I can't spend over $200 on a quality red dot. Now that I have a picatiny rail I'm going back to the range.

This is the last one I bought and I like it alot. Really like the fact that it runs off of a triple A battery. The smaller 2 moa dot is a plus also. I put this on a 22 I have.

I would buy a TRS-25 long before I would get any UTG product. I have two, bought for $55 each during one of the many price drops. It has a fairly small 3 MOA dot so it isn’t appropriate for pistols.

These look fine on a lever gun, with no “tacitcool” bumps, knobs, ridges, levers, lasers or gizmos.😀

The third pic down the sight shows the reticle blurry ... it's not. It's crystal clear with sharp lines.
