Re: Iron Sights: Back on the Soapbox
I shot iron sights in the Corps... On everything from the aircrew 38s and 45s to the Competition 45s and 22s, the Garands, M14s, and M16s. Everyone didn't get optics back then. In competitions, we shot all the way back to 600 yards, with iron sights. We focused on the front sight, the target was a blur, we hit it.
In PPC matches later, we still shot handguns, with iron sights, back to 50 yards.
We blackened the sights to reduce glare, focused on the front sight post, and the target was a blur. We hit it.
These days, target shooting, I still smoke my sights.
Practicing with my edc gun, I get a flash sight picture.
I still hit it.
My squirrel gun, a cz22 has a scope, for long range head shots for Miss T.
My 308 has a scope, for feral hogs, wolves, and yotes, if needed. They, can be a mite skittish.
Iron sights on the rest.

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

Iron sights on my henry cch 30=30 as it is heavy enough at 8.5lbs. Not a fan of heavy rifles. Open sights on 2 of my BP's and one scoped. All the rest scoped. Like scopes for dusk and dawn hunting as they enhance poor light conditions. Strictly one's personal choice. Have encountered some guns that require different open sight holds due to running out of steps on the rear sight.
