We had an unexpected surprise today when checking out the "pot garden" our daughter plants on our patio each year. She and I tried something different, and I really did not think we'd get much results. We planted two hollyhock plants in a single 14"-square pot. My patio area has no dirt -- only a concrete pad and then river rock all surrounded by a tall picket fence.
Anyway, the hollyhock is a favorite flower of mine, and a wonderful childhood memory of the tons of hollyhocks my Grandma grew in her garden. But here, we tried it in a pot of dirt. The plant/stalk is supposed to reach a height of 6-feet or taller. So far, one multiple-stalked plant is about 14" and has yet to bring out any buds. The single-stalked plant is 26", and that's what was the surprise.
This morning my eyes looked exactly like our smiley friend --> .
Here is the very first hollyhock on the taller plant, with more to come. It was a lot of fun to view this pleasant sight!
(Click on the picture and notice the details of the next buds!).
Spring has sprung. Get out and shoot your Henry
Beautiful surprise on the patio.
