Icy Iceland

Post by PT7 » Sat Dec 17, 2016 12:24 am

Once again it's winter time, and I enjoy wandering the web and viewing winter photography. None of the below photos are mine, but I think they are most unique winter scenes.

Other parts of our world have very interesting images of deep winter weather. Here are some professional photos (various web images) of an oft-visited location in Iceland, which I thought were exquisitely "wintry." I've included a paragraph about this interesting & beautiful winter vista.

In case you don't know, I'm one of those nutty folk that like winter and cold. Note that I've bolded a part of the last sentence in this paragraph. Based on that, I would enjoy visiting here someday. :)

Jökulsárlón glacial lake in Iceland
To locals, Jökulsárlón means 'glacial river lagoon' in Icelandic, a simple name that belies its spectacular beauty. Jökulsárlón is supplied with its impressive array of icebergs by southeast Iceland’s massive Vatnajökull glacier. A person can stroll on the sand among beached ice formations, or take a boat tour and float out among the small icebergs. Either way, taking a taste of millennia-old ice is encouraged. The wildlife here is also abundant: seals, salmon, and the 'pirate of the seas'--the skua seabird. All these creatures call this cold and ethereal world home.

They are beautiful photographs, PT7. Thank you for posting them.

As an aside, Iceland probably has more volcanoes per land area than just about anywhere else on Earth.

Our neighbor at camp is a professional photographer. He traveled to Iceland within the last year and took some amazing photographs. He's also a pilot. A very gifted man. I'll see if I can find some of his work.

Pretty eerie some of them. If you were there the silence would be deafening I'm sure.
