hour and a half hunt this afternoon

Post by bandit1250 » Sat Nov 16, 2019 5:42 pm

This morning was used up going for coal and unloading it instead of in the woods. So I did that and a few other things like dishes and sweeping and mopping the floors while wife was working. Got in the woods right at 2:00 and saw a squirrel right away and got set up on my sticks with the CZ Varmint 17 Mach 2 and made a clean shot on that one. Saw a few other squirrels before I got a chance at another one up in a Hemlock barking at me. The 17 Mach 2 doesn't like small limbs or pine needles in the way. Two shots never even made it to the squirrel. I later got a better shot and got that one also. The time spent there I saw nine for the total and ended up with four and thought that was enough for that spot. I have taken 13 out of that small corner of the woods but still seeing quite a few but decided not to take any more from such a small area and leave some for breeding in December. With so few trips to the woods this year I have came home with 16 but I usually get that many in a good year on about three times out. Squirrels are very wild and don't stop to mess around long. Turkeys right now are not being seen by to many hunters. There is a lot of standing corn fields right now and if they get in there they are tough to get unless you sit and maybe catch them coming back out to roost. I am not a sitter so for me there is always a super market to get a turkey. Just hate to have two straight years not getting one with Dad's Sako 222. Have another week and the Thanksgiving Day and the Friday after to hunt turkey and then deer season on Saturday. This was this late afternoon squirrels positioned for pictures that hopefully won't offend any one.

That's a pretty slick, CZ, there. Also, always nice to see a guy helping out around the house. Good for you. You earned your hunting, trip.

.
Congrats on your hunt! Look like Eastern Greys. I wouldn't worry about taking too many. They are quite prolific and ubiquitous. Even if you shot all of them in your corner. Infill from adjoining areas would be almost overnight.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

I forgot to include a question about 'why the bench vice' & channel lock pliers? But then I remembered your skinning technique.
