Sustainable harvest rates?
Have a ten acre track of timber on a farm that I rent for the pasture. Saw a go. Of squirrels while deer hunting it. Going squirrel hunting tomorrow. Who knows if I will slay many or not ..however I do wonder...what is a sustainable rate if harvest iff a track that size if I want good levels if squirrels bto hunt next year and the year after...and so on....any thoughts?

Re: Sustainable harvest rates?
According to biologists, figure 4-10 squirrels per 2.5 acres, the actual number depending on the quality of the habitat and food crop for the year. Also, if your 10 acres is adjacent to good squirrel habitat, any squirrels you harvest will quickly be replaced by neighboring squirrels. Back in the day, I've taken as many as ten squirrels, sometimes more, on smaller tracts that than that and come back the following year to find the hunting equally good. Really depends on what you have as far as quality habitat, though.
