Re: Turkey time in TN
Heads out Sunday am. Hoping for a gobbler. My son is an avid hunter. Me? Hoping to learn.

Re: Turkey time in TN
interesting test ... years ago I used to attend bunches of turkey shoots .... doing so taught me the importance of patterning not just different shotguns but different choke tubes used in the same shotgun

Using an old Montgomery Wards browning knock off, full choke. We will see. Love learning new ideas.

Jim the Remingtons don't have choke tubes, and both are Improved.
The BPS has a turkey choke.
Bout to head that way, check in later.

Re: Turkey time in TN
good luck .... hope you have an enjoyable hunt .... our 1100 had a fixed choke .... I sent it to Carlson and they fitted the barrel to accommodate Remington Choke Tubes .... doing so really worked wonders

No Turkey yet, but did watch some deer earlier.
I too enjoy the sites and sounds of the woods waking up.

No Turkey was hurt here today, I did see 3 or 4 hens way down on the other end of the field.

Re: Turkey time in TN
Well I had to work on opening day but was able to go last Sunday the 2nd day of the season and had a super hunt...gobbler answered my box call yelps about 150 yards out or so to the east...over to southeast another turkey began a pleading yelp and started moving closer to me...it came on up and was a hen that passed on my right flank..the gobbler had answered my call again and was a bit closer...the hen got behind me and continued her yelp...another turkey doing a keekee call joined up with the hen...last gobble I heard was about 50 yards out and I put down my call and got ready...after a few minutes I say his red head atop his black neck as he walked cautiously looking for my wooden hen...when he passed behind a brushy snag I lifted my shotgun...he stepped out with head and neck in the clear...boom...dead...no flop...about 25 yards, 10.5” beard, 1.5” spurs, and weighed 25#...he is the heaviest and probably oldest turkey I’ve ever killed...thankful to have the opportunity and so blessed...a couple days ago I called one that came in silent...he had answered my calls from about 80 yards away across a deep ravine..I never dreamed he would come across...it was a little windy and I thought I heard a slight leaf rustle but dismissed it...mistake...I moved on my stool a bit ...and he freaked out and got airborne and gone before I could react...those silent slip ins are tough...it is hard to stay on high alert for a long time and I have been busted by a few in this manner...anyway those gobblers are so exciting to hunt...I’ve made every mistake in the book and still do but I have learned a lot too...
