Red, that is some great looking country! Great time of year isn't it? I really like the Bodie area. A lot of folks just don't know about it.

.
Another gorgeous area. Like the campsite there by the river. Sorry your hunt hasn't worked out.

It sure is a great spot. Bodie is amazing too. I’ve been through that area a couple of times. I was chatting with a buddy of mine who is a hunting guide from Colorado (he leases 20,000 acres in Sonora Mexico and has deals with land owners in New Mexico for his guided elk hunts) about the differences in hunting style in the various different geographic zones. Your spots around Bodie give you some opportunities to sit and glass and actually SEE deer. Where the majority of our whitetail and mule deer are, there is not nearly the same open spaces. We are lucky to see across a clear cut that’s 500 yards wide. Some guys are still really successful, but for a rookie big game hunter like me, it’s a challenge just actually seeing the game. I’ll take my “armed camping” trip as a success as this is the first time I’ve even had eyes on legal game in 3 seasons. We still have until November 30 for whitetail, and until December 15 for mule deer so I hope to ge5 another chance this year.

I thought about taking my fly gear about 1 hour after I left the house. It’s usually in the camper but we were 100% hunting in the daylight. I’ll go back there and fish it soon.

Red, it is some BIG country to be sure. Especially way back in Bodie and the Monument Ridge area of Bridgeport above Upper Summers Meadow Rd. Can log a lot of hiking/hunting miles in those places.
BigAl, Ca. does have some nice places that haven't burned[so far!]. The Eastern Sierra's is where I love to wander around.
