Anyone out chasing coyotes?

Post by MJ151 » Wed Apr 10, 2019 3:24 pm

I know they aren't "big game" but they sure affect the big game numbers. So is anyone out putting the hurt on the song dogs? Out here on the West side of the Cascades it can be up close action unless you're hunting the clear cuts. Plus there is always the added chance you might call in a bear or cougar. I haven't gotten out but a couple of half days and haven't been able to score yet.

.
Have them here in the TV. Hear them most nights, sometimes close-in, sometimes aways out. When they show up in the day time, I just go out and yell at them. Likely to change as there are more and more reports in town of coyotes taking pets. Get them out here in the country and maybe fewer pet takes in town. You still on the Olympic peninsula?

I did manage to take one during my dear hunt this year. My son was more excited about the dog than my dear.

I will always take the opportunity to take one.

Mags, I'm still over here in Kitsap County, just off the OP. We have plenty in our rural area where I live but you have to have five acres to shoot in your own property. So I generally cross the Hood Canal and cruise logging roads until I find a place i like and do a set of two. We do have a pretty high concentration of cougar so I like to have a partner when doing any calling. Came a cross a mud puddle where I hunt that had coyote, deer, black bear, and cougar tracks all within a square foot.

Lost a good dog to yotes last year. They come right into my place looking for dinner. Open season here, take as many as I can. Bobcats same way.
