Another kill with Elmer the .41...

Maybe this should be in the small game section ;) but when I kill a deer for myself I shoot a 6 month deer. Every year I give deer away to several friends on a list who always want venison; it enables me to continue hunting and they get venison. I kill a young deer for myself because of size, taste, and tenderness. Got this one yesterday morning at ~91 yards with my .41...complete pass through entering back of chest but clipped rumen on the way out. There wasn’t much of a mess though...deer travelled/fell for about 5 yards. Got her skinned, cut, packaged and in the freezer. After processing the tenderloins and heart sure tasted good cooked in an ancient Wagner iron skillet with onion slices and a piece of chopped bacon. This is the 2nd deer I’ve taken with the little .41 carbine.....it is a super little rifle...

Couldn't agree more on younger deer making better table fare. Good for you to share, too.

When we raised a steer for the table it was usually in the freezer at around nine months.

TN, what loading did you used ? Remember prior, we conversed about the bullet velocity and if it would have enough penetration at those velocities.

Slugnut...didn’t notice your question before...I used a max book load of Lil’gun under a 210 Speer Deep Curl...don’t remember the exact weight but I use a lil Dandy powder measure and one of the rotors throws the max load...I hunted with the Deep Curls instead of the XTPs because the DCs are just a bit more accurate in my rifle..but not enough to make any practical difference. Both shots were complete pass through...
