I used a 158 gr swc on a nice 8 point some years back.
At around 90 yds., made a few steps and expired.
I do have a very accurate load worked up on a 180 LFN & some Blue Dot.
I will try this load at some point.

Good luck on the hunt, & will be waiting on pictures of said results.

Looks like CA is pretty vague on caliber size. Appropriate for the game being harvested. CA regulations are specific about using only centerfire for big game. There are also game and area specific requirements for nolead. Then by July 1 2019 nolead bullets for hunting anything, anywhere in CA.

Yes, you can. Only restriction is, must have 4" barrel or longer. Perfectly legal. In Ca., starting in 2019, non-lead for everything statewide.
