Going hog hunting for my honeymoon. What ammo do those of you who have been recommend? I have a couple boxes of federal fusion 300gr in the cabinet, but I'm not sure if there's a better round.

most any bullet that comes out of the business end of a 45-70 can easily take care of any hog .... at what range do you anticipate getting a shot ? .... do you plan to reload or do you plan to use factory ammo

Nothing says "I love you" nearly as well as a freshly pulled pork. I'm looking forward to seeing photos of the hunt and the barbecue.

A honeymoon hog deserves the biggest, hardest hitting ammo you can find.

Congratulations!

Yer federal fusion will be fine. If yer gun likes it don't change it.

I was told most shots are 50ish yards. The plan is to reload in the future, but factory loads for the time being.

The gun doesn't seem to mind the ammo. Depending on where you look, they say that the 300gr soft tip won't perform the best on a hog. Just wanting to ensure that what I bring does the job.

at 50 yards I agree with the recommendation to use whatever your rifle likes the best .... of all the factory ammo we've tried, HSM's Bear Load ammo http://www.cabelas.com/product/HSM-Bear ... ear%2Bload has proven to be the one our 47-70 likes the best

Most animals aren't nearly as tough as everyone makes them out to be. The stories of tough to kill animals are usually generated by those with poor shot placement.
