Congrats on a nice buck and a great choice of rifle! Hard to believe you can hunt deer without the latest megablaster and a high powered scope with dials and electronics and more lines in the reticle than a Chicago street map! Good job!!

Hey Longbow....In reading my post I should have said "it's possible to hunt deer" rather than directing my sarcasm at "you". No offense meant. I have a couple skills but being a wordsmith ain't one of them!

That’s a beautiful buck. Very symmetrical rack too. Is he big for a Tennessee deer? I would guess so? Will you do a mount for the rack? I do a “euro” of all my deer, but that guy might get a proper full mount.

Funny thing about antler points… by our regs here in British Columbia, that is a 3 pt. They govt biologists who set the standards for qualifying by antler points go by maximum number of tines on one side, excluding brow tines or eye guards. We hunters get a bit more in depth and would call that a 3x3 as it has 3 on each side. My whitetail from last year was a 3x2 but yielded just shy of 100 lbs of meat off the bone.

I still shoot .30-30 for 98% of my deer hunting. I sometimes feel a bit of a goof wearing the latest and greatest hunter specific clothing (I’m very lucky to be looked after by First Lite) all the while knowing there are guys “getting it done” in jeans and a flannel. Probably more monster deer have been taken by guys in their work clothes shooting grammas old .30-30 than any “mountain athlete” type of modern day hunter.
