First Hunt With My 22 Frontier
First Hunt With My 22 Frontier
Got my frontier sighted in and made some time to get in the timber this afternoon. Missed the first fella but both of these where good shots. Three shells two Squirrels. So nice to get out in the woods and snoop around. Forgot how fun squirrel hunting is. Going to try squirrel dumplings this week for the first time.

Outstanding! great photo's, thanks for sharing.
I have the same frontier model, its my go to squirrel rifle. I had to mount a scope on it tho, those are squirrels here are small targets. LOL
Is yours a 22lr or 22mag? and what ammo does it like? Mine is a 22lr and loves CCI standard.

Nice plump Fox squirrels. Should be great eating. That's what I hunted growing up in Nebraska. Miss it, terribly.

Re: First Hunt With My 22 Frontier
Tcall - I like the federal value pack stuff and the CCI standard also. It’s the LR version. I will say the gun really dislikes the Winchester bulk stuff! When cycling the action the new shell will “jump” or “spring” up and not feed into the chamber. It gets stuck at an angle. I shot 10 different brands and types of ammo and the Winchester is the ammo I have issues with. Still have 300 shells to fight through.

Re: First Hunt With My 22 Frontier
Im right there with you on the winchester bulk, I dont remember any feeding issues, but they didnt group well. Same with the remington (golden bullet) bulk. These and the CCI may be the only rounds I have tried in this rifle, the CCI's shot so well, just kinda stopped there.
Ill try the federals next time out. Thanks

Re: First Hunt With My 22 Frontier
for a hunting round we prefer CCI Mini Mags but for plinking (specially with the 30 shot magazines in our son's 10-22's) we use the bulk Winchester ammo .... it has served us well

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

One for three ain't bad when you are in such settings. I like the lever wrap.
