I know LBT molds has a 360gr LFN mold and I say a large dose of H-110/296 would get you those velocities. Those are what are called "Ruger only" loads, probably pushing 29k+ psi. I know Double Tap has a 360gr WFNGC doing 1200fps out of a 7.5" barrel at 27.5k psi. So it is not a stretch to hit 1300fps, 1495 fps out of a 16.5" carbine.

360gr hard cast WFN for 14 cents each from Pro-Loading on GunBroker:

I don't know if these will feed through a Henry...

360g hard cast bullet at over 1300 fps - about 75 yards. That is not very far relative to my region but in the deep & dark near summit canyons of the Cascades it is.
Whew! wingnut, I have to know: who makes the 360gr hard cast? And where is that 1300MV coming from? What manual?
Not doubting here, but, man, that seems steep. Thanks.
Sorry… I brain farted this thread.

See Midway, Graf’s, Midsouth, etc., most have 357-360g hardcast (.452 gas checked and not) from Oregon Trail, Cast Performance, Hunters Supply and many others. Extrapolate the following loads to a 16, 18, 20 inch barrel and you’ll see 1300 fps MV is within reach. Also, notice the COAL’s!

From Hodgdon online manual, 45 Colt Ruger, T/C, etc.:
Case: Winchester
Twist: 1:16"
Primer: Winchester LP, Large Pistol
Barrel Length: 7.25"
Trim Length: 1.280"
Bullet: 360 GR. CPB LFN GC
COAL: 1.680”
Hodgdon H4227 22.0g Compressed, 1,167 fps, 29,800 CUP

Not 360g but another example of “HOT”:
Nosler 250g jacketed, COAL – 1.590”, 12” barrel, 1420 fps:
https://load-data.nosler.com/load-data/ ... er-encore/

However, to load for best results will require a g’smithing change in, at least the Henry’s. The COAL to feed (tube-to-chamber) must be longer. Seems Henry’s max in a lever is about 1.550”, that is not enough but it is not hard to change. The cartridge stop fence on the lifter has to be filed back some to allow a COAL of about 1.650”.

I know this is an older thread but Wingnut, what was the overall length on that 360gr load you shot in the Henry?, bullet profile etc. Because I was unaware you could run a bullet that long through a Henry. I run such loads in my blackhawk and if I could keep the same load for the carbine it'd be happy. I am assuming you have to modify the carrier, correct?
COAL of 1.645" for a Cast Performance WLNGC 45/360. Yes, I modified the carrier/lifter, see above post.

Pic's of Hodgdon's 2018 Annual Manual; Remember most if not all Henry's are rated for 45C Ruger pressure loads. Note barrel length, bullets & weights, COAL and pressures (PSI & CUP):

If so, what do you hunt ? What have you harvested ?
The rifle I'm holding my picture to the right is a .45 colt steel big boy. I took that buck and another buck with that rifle using Buffalo Bore Deer Grenades. Now I handload 250 grain XTP's over 20 grains of 2400. (not as temperature sensitive as H110)

I have no personal experience with problems with H110 but I have read enough from folks who have had cold weather trouble with this powder to avoid it. (squib loads, powder not igniting, velocity issues etc.) I had great luck last winter with my -40 .45 colt cold weather test using Alliant 2400. (see previous post)... I'll stick with 2400, good for Ruger only loads down to mild plinking loads

info appreciated .... I've never hunted in such cold temps .... have hunted at subfreezing temps without any issues using H110 .... will most certainly keep this in mind if I ever have the opportunity to hunt in what I'd consider to be extreme cold weather

I took a decent 7 pointer a few years ago using a JHP .45Colt that weighed 300grs and was moving about 1100fps.
I shot this from a Rossi M92 chambered for .454Casull.
Dropped him in his tracks at about 45 yards.
