Kaspersky Antivirus
less than a year ago I purchased a Lenovo laptop from Best Buy .... at the recommendation of their "Geek Squad" I bought and they install Kaspersky antivirus .... I just learned that following accusations Kaspersky Labs has ties to the Russian government, Best Buy has decided to pull the company's software from its shelves. .... without knowing more, I admit that I'm a bit concerned .... I'm strongly considering taking this computer back and strongly requesting they remove Kaspersky, give me a credit for the time left and installing something new .... is anyone else having such concerns .... please note, this thread is not political .... all responses need to be authored with that in mind

Re: Kaspersky Antivirus
Kaspersky AV software is now highly suspicious. I believe it's no longer permitted on GOV computers; but there are several alternatives. In my opinion, you're right to consider removing it and getting your vendor to agree.

Re: Kaspersky Antivirus
Interesting. In December 2016 I purchased a floor-model (used as a computer demo) Lenovo laptop from Best Buy. The Geek Squad at this store recommended AV software named Webroot SecureAnywhere. The packaging lists the software as "USA Owned," and only valid if purchased from Best Buy. Seems to work okay so far.
Gosh, so many choices out there....Cyberspace is really cyberspace!
Agree with CT on this one to try and replace your AV stuff, JEBar. Your heading for a good resolution.

I use to have Norton in my windows 7 computer. I took it out it just slows the computers to a crawl. I wont pay for any of those antivirius programs. At work the computer people put panda on mine. I use nothing at home but my main computer is a mac book. When on the windows 7 computer I just am careful where I go and I dont use Internet explorer. I think what your going to do Jim is the right thing but if it were me I wouldnt pay for another one. Al

Re: Kaspersky Antivirus
just got back from our local Best Buy .... it took them a while to remove Kaspersky from our computer .... they now recommend a program named Webroot .... to my surprise they did so without charging me anything ....as of now, I really can't tell any difference

Re: Kaspersky Antivirus
I think I may have installed that a few years back and recall thinking that it was "itself" a virus

Microsoft has a free anti-virus (Defender). How you tried it yet?

I have been using that for a few years now. Haven't had any problems with it. It is built into all Microsoft systems since windows 8.
